Laid in a classic herringbone, this Calacatta Sugar mosaic sets each honed marble baton on the diagonal so the surface carries a gentle chevron movement across walls and floors. The stone itself is a warm white run through with cream and ivory and lit here and there by soft golden veining; the honed finish holds it all to a smooth matte, letting the natural markings speak without any mirror-brightness. Because the veining shifts from sheet to sheet, no two runs read exactly alike — a mark of genuine stone rather than a printed repeat. The angled format brings direction and quiet energy, suiting bathroom floors and walls, shower enclosures, splashbacks and hallway features where a warmer white is wanted. The matte surface offers reassuring grip in wet areas. Cut from our own blocks and calibrated sheet by sheet, the batons meet cleanly across large deliveries, keeping the chevron crisp where any break in the angle would immediately catch the eye.

- Honed, polished, tumbled or brushed — which finish should you specify?Specify honed for interior floors, tumbled or brushed where the surface gets wet, and polished only where there is no slip requirement. All four start from the same slab; the finish changes grip, how visibly it wears, and how often it needs sealing — not the stone itself.
- Marble or travertine — which should you specify?Specify marble where a polished, low-absorption surface matters, and travertine where texture, grip and warmth matter more. Marble absorbs about 0.15% of its weight in water against travertine at roughly 2.6%, but the two overlap in compressive strength — porosity and strength are separate properties.
